Responding to What's Up With That!
Made in the U.S. size 10 shoe is now 11 or 11 1/2 made elsewhere.
There will always be war someplace 'cause war is good for U.S. Business. Not good for those who serve, but good for U.S. Business.
Medical benefits for those who dictate U.S. Policy are great. Medical benefits for those who carry out those Policies are...so-so at best.
Instead of politicians visiting U.S. Troops overseas, why not use the travel expenses to supply those troops with body armor and other needed supplies? One trip might upgrade a Hummer to withstand the blast from an IED? Just a thought...not an expert.
We buy Made In China and it may last only a short time. Does the U.S. Goverment buy military clothing and more from China? If so, how long do those items last before they have to be replaced?
Made In America meant something. Quality products made by people who cared. And yes, made a good wage. Now, products are not quality and made by people under the thumb of an uncaring government who get paid little for their work. In China, all business is Government Business. Or so I have heard.
United States Flags are Made In China!

IS THE CHILD SAFE???
How about a connection with the local CYS and the recent shooting that happened on Rolling Meadows Road: A CYS employee has a daughter (whom she lost custody of) that lives AT the residence where the shooting took place. Has CYS looked into this matter?? Is this child safe??
[EDITOR'S NOTE: Don't you wonder what's going on exactly at Greene County CYS? What sort of hiring practices are going on there? I've been privy to some unusual information about that. Could this be contributing to the unprofessional way people, especially longtime foster parents, are being treated? Trust me, I'll keep working on it!]
HE DUN IT
In response to the Greene Scream "Who Dun It", the "shooter" has been identified...but it appears that there is an effort to "cover this shooting up" by going to the local Democrat leaders and not let it get to the media. Stay tuned!
[EDITOR'S NOTE: I can't really print the person's name as I don't have all the facts, but I agree that it's sort of fishy that the police aren't releasing the shooter's name. As I've said a hundred times, if I park in between the wrong lines on Washington St., I get a ticket and they start watching my car. IF I was involved in ANY sort of altercation, violent or not, my name would be splashed all over the other papers, would it not? So what gives?]

WHO DUN IT?
Recently, it was reported in local newspapers that a man was shot in the back while in Franklin Township. The man who was shot was identified but the shooter was not named. Does this mean there is an armed shooter on the loose in Greene County?
"Shot in the back" seems quite serious. Was there a police search for the shooter? If so, and if the shooter was found, why hasn't the name of this individual released to the public, as was the name of the man shot in the back?
If this individual has not been found, was there a warning for county residents? How safe are Greene County residents?
##
WALK THIS WAY...OR THATA' WAY??
If you have a few minutes while in "downtown" Waynesburg, examine, on a non-professional basis, the traffic light system at High and Washington streets. Try to determine when it is safe to use the pedestrian walk/don't walk pathway. Then think about how much money was spent on those and the rest of Waynesburg's traffic/pedestrian lights.

INVESTIGATION OF GCCYS NEEDED
After reading the latest edition of GreeneSpeak, I find it hard to believe that CYS can again and again play with the emotions of so many innocent people.
I think it is time for an investigation. Do the commissioners TRULY value the lives of our children? If so, they should be asking questions of those running Human Services, particulary CYS.
##
HELP THE KIDS AND SR CITIZENS, PLEASE
As I sit here looking out the window in my computer room, nothing has changed, nor will it, without all of us getting involved. Take time, become a leader, for the ones we have in our county are apathetic, and self-serving.
Mr. Trader is new, but I hope all are watching. The property tax issue should not be an issue. Our seniors deserve this moment, our seniors need this. All of the paved senior centers parking lots in PA could not benefit them as much.
Any child without health care is a tragedy. Our governor says he can raise $15 million to have Fl and MI re-vote. I think our children would be a wiser investment. Those two states had their first chance, some of our little ones never get that.
This is the slow time of year, but soon all will be bright again with new life. Let's become a loud voice in our state, and in our federal government. Be vigilant, and always at the ready.
##
CURRENT STATE REP NEEDS TO GO
Would you vote for a man under investigation by the ATTORNEY GENERAL? Now don't laugh, many have been bamboozled into a state of nugatory return on our tax dollar. Our current 50th District rep is this man.
Mr. Veon and this man organized the MIDNIGHT PAY HEIST. Mr. Veon was voted out by his own electors. The other person got by only on deceitful rhetoric, "VOTE ME IN AND I WILL BE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE "
This person's own party members voted against him in Harrisburg, and this man begged you, sent you fliers, and how many phone calls did your home receive? He had people standing at every precinct pole telling you "VOTE DEMOCRAT."
Oh yes, BONUSGATE. What an inspiration to have a state Job; apparently the underlings give our TAX DOLLARS away for no reason.
Please, we all need some property tax relief. Send it to our senior citizens; they are worthy. Heym this man claims to have no idea of what is going on in Harrisburg, if he is there or not. This is sad when a man has lost all sense of what is right and what is wrong.
Reminds me of Senator Byrd of West Virgina; it's time to go. This man, our 50th District rep, also had no idea of Mr. LaGrotta's play on NEPOTISMGATE. Maybe he suffers from Encephalitis, but he can tell you what shoes you had on a year ago.
We also have our very own WATERGATE scandal in the western end of the 50th district: DUKE LAKE. With the revealing of the damage to the dam, is it possible that the angle of subsidence with longwall mining is more than the State reconizes?
Check this man's coffers. If this type of POLITICAL MONGER gives you a secure feeling for your future years in our 50th District ,then please vote your will. But I think we have reached a flashpoint. This person can tell you how many buttons were on the jacket that Napoleon was wearing at Waterloo, but he can't remember anything about the $2 million dollars paid out of his office for BONUSGATE.
This is just part of the scalping we have to endure. What about PLANEGATE, LIMOGATE? And now we have MAFIAGATE with the casinos.

WORKER DRONES NEED A BREAK, TOO
I need someone to explain to me why tax reform efforts and discussions always seem to focus upon one group of constituents--older Pennsylvanians. Why can't those of us who work and get gouged as well get a perk now and then?
And another thing--sure, DeWeese deserves some heat for some of his moves. But we have had good old Dave Coder for four terms--16 years if he serves out his current term. That's 16 years of being at the bottom of the heap. There's some others that have been feasting at the public trough in the county office building for quite awhile, too.
Like DeWeese or despise him, you have to admit he does funnel some cash our way. If DeWeese provides some of the economic fuel for the county, then the commissioners and long term appointees are the carburetor. Few would argue that the engine of Greene County's economic development is running smoothly.
The fuel--our taxes, be they state grants or what we pay out of pocket or both--is being delivered from Harrisburg and by us via the county treasurer's office. The engine hasn't run well for at least 13 years, and some would say longer. If the fuel is there and the engine isn't running well, it's time to take a serious look at the fuel delivery system. You want to dump DeWeese? Go for it.
Nothing here will change until we have at minimum two new commissioners (uhm, Pam and Dave, that means you need to go) and flush the long term appointees down the toilet (solicitors, chief clerk).

'BABY T.' STORY IS HEARTBREAKING
The Baby T. story is heartbreaking and sadly common in this new era of CYS. CYS's number one mission is to protect the children; however, it seems as if Greene County CYS/Human Services has lost sight of this and is more concerned with protecting thier image.
Also, there are some questions regarding the director's lack of experience in child welfare.
Greene families, beware! Know your rights! CYS is NOT all powerful. CYS does not have the power to enter your home and run your life. The only way you have to cooperate is through a court order. Do not rely completely on what the caseworker says. Do your homework and know your rights!

SAFETY VS. MONEY
I'd just like to give a big HURRAH to the Feb. 13, 2008 comment, "No Child Left Behind" by Lori Grim.
As a student in West Greene, seeing all of the schools in the county delay or cancel except us, I knew it was because of the PSSAs. I know many of my friends were scared for their saftey on the way to school. I ALSO know that our school cares more about the PSSAs than anything else; our classes are PSSA-oriented and I know teachers think it is wrong.
NO, getting out early does not make up for it, we need to be safe more than we need money, I don't think our administration knows that.
##
WHO NEEDS THE BILLY-TWO-STEP?
This comment is in regard to "Check's in the Mail" political cartoon in the O-R (the lesser of the Greene County papers). The picture shows the couple choosing what to do with their stimulus "bonus" money from the federal government.
My question for the year is: What could I do with the proposed grand savings of $2-$4 per week?
Would it not be wiser and more correct to help out the elderly with complete TAX FREEDOM?
PA House Bill 1600 is a great start, thank you, Mr.Perzel.
Now Mr. DeWeese's proposal would be a money shuffle. Increase sales tax, increase state income tax, for what? $100?
Give us real tax reform, not the Billy-Two-Step. Our senior citizens deserve this.
The State House voted 159-37 for this bill. Mr Deweese TABLED it, so it could not be put back on the floor for its final vote for passage,so our senior citizens could be the first in our state to have TAX FREEDOM.
One more Greene County tragedy, one more of DeWeese's acts of chicanery.

In regard to Baby T., one wonders who will get blamed by those who are really to blame. Rupert Eder is no longer around; they used to blame everything on him. Looks like Karen Bennett and Dave Coder need to step up to the plate and take responsibility, for once.

TOWERS ARE A DONE DEAL
Attention citizens of Greene County, especially members of "Stop the Towers":
Check out the latest property transfers. The towers are a done deal. Every single legislator knew this over a year ago and still had the nerve to express (fake) opposition.
If more people would take a little time to do some research they would realize that our entire system of government is one big scam, from school boards all the way to the president.

WHO'S LEADING THIS COUNTY ANYWAY?
Greene County has always been known for its rough and tumble nature. The residents are proud and yet possess an honest rebelliousness to them. It seems that the present "powers that be" are aiming to strip the residents of Greene County of their power to question.
What is going on with Baby T.? Why was this baby ripped from the only family it has ever known? What type of closure will this child have, will the foster family have?
The quote that hit me the hardest was the director saying, "I warn my foster families not to get attached to these children."
WHAT????? WE are talking about human beings that need nurturing are we not??
I question the leadership that allows this to continue.

'No Child Left Behind'
(…at the bus stop because it’s PSSA testing day !)
There were roughly 400 school closings in SW PA yesterday because of BAD weather. It was 12 degrees with an inch or so of snow in the a.m. Freezing rain was expected by noon. With the cold temperatures, the snow and the expectations of ice, most of Greene County cancelled school.
MOST. Not West Greene.
The powers that be obviously do not think the safety of our children and the dedicated men and women who drive the buses should overshadow the fact that the students need (for the greater good of the district’s bank accounts) to attend school in order to take the PSSA’s. Just as the kids got the tests done, SURPRISE, the announcement was made to release the kids early, in the middle of the light freezing rain that was falling.
I am so glad we have our priorities straight.

Mr. DeWeese said we have to wait and wait and wait. Everyone in this county knew CONSOL was the vilian. But I gess because they put money in your coffer, you turned a blind eye to us in the WEST.
Shame on you, Bill Deweese!. Don't worry about TOM CORBETT, BILLY BOY, we know it is time to purge ourselves of a prodigal one like you. This is HOPKINS COUNTRY.

Dearest Cindy, once again you have done an excellent job in bringing to light the farce that is the Rices Landing Council, and especially the expose on CYS in Greene County.
However, and with all due respect to veterans everywhere and especially "Baby T's" former foster father, it simply is not accurate to portray CYS as a bunch of SS troopers.
The Nazis, for all their evil and strife, had one redeeming quality that CYS and our county government lack. They had the courtesy to tell everyone up front what they were going to do. Hitler outlined very accurately in his book "Mein Kampf" just exactly what he believed, what he wanted to do, and left very little doubt who he was going to do it to.
CYS and county government hide behind their layers of attorneys, citing confidentiality and whatever else is convenient, and then do whatever they please. Nazis they ain't--Nazis could coordinate things and put on pretty displays for the masses. All we have are dime store Tammany Hall Boss Tweed wanna-be's who are quite comfortable, and quite spineless, being big fish in their little, little pond.

A PRISON COMPLIMENTS OF WAL-MART?
Is another prison coming to Greene County? I think I once heard talk of a regional jail/prison in Greene County. If Wal-Mart backs out, the "Wal-Mart" location might make a perfect site for a new jail/prison, between the current county Jail and SCI-Greene. Murtha's gift to the county?
[EDITOR'S NOTE: I had hear awhile back that they were trying to get another SCI-type prison in FAYETTE County, but have been too busy wuth the current edition to do any checking. Any reader with information on this is welcome to write in!]

VOTE HOPKINS
A man who works the soil and is honest is worth more than all the corrupt politicans in Harrisburg. If your only concern is being re-elected for the big show, please stand down.
The honest citizens of the 50th District deserve a trustfed representative who will work for us. Self-preservation at any cost in politics is not a quality of endorsement to teach our children.
All should see that re-electing this man who is under investigation by the Attorney General is just wrong.
We are Greene County, and we demand a REP who is HONEST, has INTEGRITY, and we can TRUST.
Give HOPKINS our vote.
I am sick and tired of taking a beating from all corners of our state.

THROW THE BUMS OUT
Here is something for all of your thoughtful and informed readers to think about: a new definition of our state legislators - "bureaucratic aristocrats."
They have no concern about gasoline prices, food, insurance, haircuts, etc. They live like royalty.
It is quite obvious that very few of them have read the PA or U.S. Constitution. Our only hope is to start electing people like Greg Hopkins to actually represent us.
Thank you, GreeneSpeak, for being the First Amendment leader in Greene County.

THE HAVE AND WON'T HAVE IN 2009
No old TVs.
New ID cards..."You must have your Papers in order... in order to travel."
Probably still won't have a Wal-Mart.
Taking the gun rights away from many veterans.
More restng places for birds, i.e. power line towers.
Less rights for landowners.
More foreign investors and products. In Greene County????
Wonder if the newspaper routes will be United Nations instead of United States? Could the U.N. take over Ryerson Park?
No paint at all to mark parking spaces in downtown, or uptown, Waynesburg.
Maybe Wal-Mart could move into the old county office building..."clean up on isle 4...3rd floor!"
Absolutely no change in county politics!!!!
New pipeline(s).
Less coal and a lower Greene County.
And...GreeneSpeak! We better have and got to have GreeneSpeak for without it we won't know what is happening within, or without, the County of Greene, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, U.S.A..

ONCE A DEM, ALWAYS A DEM
I'm a Democrat. My daddy was a Democrat. My grandaddy was a Democrat as was my great grandaddy. That's all that's fit for office is a Democrat. True "blue" for me and you.
That, in my opinion is why we're never going to go anywhere as a county. As long as the voters blindly cast their ballot for a political party, instead of the candidate that deserves to be in office, it'll be business as usual in Greene County.
It's the same thing every time. They step into the booth, vote the incumbent back into office, and then spend the next two or three years complaining about how nothing in this county ever changes.
The only thing worse than that are those who don't vote at all, and then want to criticize you for voting for someone whom they didn't like.

WHAT STINKS IN MT. MORRIS?
When is something going to be done about the AWFUL SMOKE and SMELL that blankets Mount Morris?
It makes your nose run, your eyes water, and you choke and sometimes you can taste sulfur in the back of your throat. And there are times you smell tires burning, and it about chokes a person to death.
The minute you come off the ramp , you can smell the awful stench and the air is filled with smoke.
I have called the EPA twice and nothing has been done. I am hoping someone can be SUED if they get criticaly ill from the AIR QUALITY that is deliberately being showered on the citizens living in Mt. Morris.

REGARDING THE EVER-POPULAR WAL-MART RUMORS....
An article appeared in the Herald-Standard the other day about weather this past fall and current winter causing delays in the construction of the Wal-Mart that is supposed to be coming to Waynesburg.
WEATHER??
September and October 2007 were warm to hot almost the entire months! The winter so far has been milder than normal with limited snowfall.
I ask Pam Snyder at this time: WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT????
CAN'T YOU COME UP WITH ANYTHING BETTER THAN THIS AS AN EXCUSE? No, it's because everything in Greene County always had and always will have a political tie. This will always hinder any development in Greene County.
Take a look at what is occurring around the area OUTSIDE of the county:
--Uniontown retail development of stores and restaurants continues, (even with no Interstate).
--Washington building of more retail and restaurants continues, with a great possibility of another outdoor sporting complex/resort coming soon.
--Morgantown W. Va. retail and restaurant construction continues at was once an abandoned slate dump and is now a huge retail area.
--Tridelphia, W. Va. (just east of Wheeling and west of Washington) has retail, restaurants, motels, and possibly a resort and amusement park!
Now Greene County has tennis courts and a mini swimming pool with a waterslide that a coal company paid for!
What is wrong with this picture? There is an interstate highway running through this county!
Oh well, I will continue to spend my money elsewhere!
[PUBLISHER'S NOTE: Regarding the newspaper article mentioned above, consider the source. It has been typical that when Pam stomps her little (big) foot, the Herald-Standard kisses her, uhm, FOOT to make her happy and get her off their backs! I've said it before and I'll say it again: "FREE" Press is a misnomer in Greene County.

NEW STATE REP NEEDED
On KDKA Radio, Monday, Jan. 14, I heard talk show host Marty Griffin interview Greene County's very own Greg Hopkins.
The political season kick-off has begun.
Bonusgate will have a very negative impact on the incumbent. It would be nice to hear good things out of Harrisburg about our representative, but (sigh) that will only happen with a quality replacement such as Hopkins.
The future is looking brighter for the 50th District. We must do what is right, and correct, and rid ourselves of this fool who sits in the state capital proclaiming to be our representative.

ARMORY MEMORIES OF THE PRESENT
My memories of the armory are more of the present, our troops going to Kosovo, then off to "World War III."...to stand and watch the families say good-bye, and see the tidalwave of emotions streak down the faces of so many children and the spouse that is left to carry on.
I cannot nor will I ever have that kind of courage.
God bless all who have given us the very foundation of life FREEDOM.

NO LOGIC WHEN IT COMES TO CROSSWALKS IN WAYNESBURG
Why is it that new pedestrian crosswalks exit near I-79 for the "comfort" and safety of those wishing to walk from here to there, but at one of the seemly more pedestrian unfriendly locations, Ten Mile Creek, near the railroad overpass, there are no pedestrian crossings.
Perhaps the longtime question should be revised from "Why did the chicken cross the road?" to "How did the chicken cross the road successfully?"
People are not chickens! Don't people have the right to cross, in relative safety, the street/highway to spend their money on fast food, slow food, movies to go, and drugs (the legal kind)? Oh, oh, with a drug store on both sides of the road, one might not need to cross the road for some items on one's shopping list.
What was I thinking? Never mind!

WHAT DO YOU RECALL ABOUT WAYNESBURG ARMORY?
What do you remember about the Waynesburg Armory?
Along with being an armory, I recall dances held there and sports, and weddings too, I think.
Can you add more to the list?
It's a shame it may soon turn into another WU parking lot. The history of Waynesburg is fast being replaced by stone and gravel and tar, none of which will be remembered for much.
Will the borough sell the Commons to WU one day?
Would not surprise me!
[PUBLISHER'S NOTE: GreeneSpeak welcomes your comments and/or memories about the Waynesburg Armory. I would love to hear your stories. Might be a fun feature story in there somewhere. Reply to this website or cindy@greenespeak.com or 724-344-7980].

RICES LANDING BOROUGH SMELLS
Dear Editor:
It was nepotism as usual at Rices Landings first Borough Council meeting of 2008. The newly appointed Mayor (whose appointment is being appealed by resident Faye Guesman) swore in his own father (who the people voted out of office in the last election) to fill a questionable vacancy on council left by Damon Neroni. Damon resigned on Jan. 3, 2008, noting that it stuck it out as long as he could through the “troubling times” last fall.
What else could you expect in a town where one family thinks they own everything and can do as they want because they have gotten away with it for all these years?
And I know there are people who are disgusted by the childish antics of a bunch of over the hill types who like to pretend they are in “power” and who assemble to play “government” once a month for the record.
I, for one, am completely disgusted with this situation. And the residents of Rices Landing should be appalled by this. But I know you will not speak out because you don’t want them “harassing you.” And so the corruption and nepotism and waste of tax payers money will continue.
You will sit there and let the “Royal Family” continue to engage in their foolishness and evil and you will accept it like a beaten dog.
The next borough meeting is Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. in the old borough building (the one that Murray Kline broke into last year, remember?)
Don’t worry about making a “stink.” A truck load of pig manure smells sweeter than borough council!

THANKS, GREENE TEAM, FOR KEEPING US STAGNANT
Feeling somewhat inquisitively adventurous, I trotted down to the Meadows to see my commonwealth's property tax reduction machines in action. Interestingly enough, my commute was impeded by another retail development of some ridiculous outlet mall.
Seeing this particular development reminded me how much I wanted to thank our continually forward thinking commisioners on their blockade of such a site in Greene County. Our commissioners, following the long-standing tradition of Greene County status quo economic preservationists, were able prevent this development or a similar one from taking over our airport grounds.
As everybody knows, the Greene County Airport is vital cog in the economic gears that drive our local economy. I can't imagine how we could fiscally survive without the rent generated by the three hangered Cesnas that haven't been more that 10 feet off the ground since 1983.
I can't possibly imagine those marvelously straight 112-yard runways being replaced by some driveway named after a corporate butt-smooching politician.
Can you just imagine all the riff-raff that a outlet mall would generate? All those people driving up and down I-79 to come to this place....Gosh. pretty soon we would be call Grove City South.
Thank goodness our politicians have the sense to woo the same businesses here that you can find in Washington, Mo'town, Uniontown, etc., because getting some retailer here that no one else has would just mean more traffic, jobs, and revenue to the county and that violates the ideals of status quo preservationists.
